PROCOCKPIT.COM

Here is another interesting website that I came across: PROCOCKPIT.COM.

Advanced flight concepts for the general aviation pilot. They have some interesting things to say... Check them out!

PocketPC E6B Software

I recently came across a very handy software E6B for the Palm and now available for the PocketPC platform from Skywriter Software.

Of course, my instructor wants me to work out how to use the old reliable Mechanical Computer, but the software is so much faster and easier to use...  For now, I will just back up my calculations with it until AFTER the checkride.

Back in the cockpit..

After many months, I am back in the cockpit and on the schedule.

Tuesday, Sept 9th was the first time back behind the controls.  With that, I thought that we might just go and do some touch and goes around the pattern.   Well, it turned out that I got to do things like Steep turns, Power-on and power-off stalls, emergency descent, loss of power -- you know, easy stuff...

Keep ATC a Government Function

Now personally, I believe that Air Traffic Control should be a governmental function.   The move right now is to privatize this function.  However it is unclear of how much would be privatized.

Here is an MP3 recording from an ATC Flight Service Station working a real emergency.  I must warn the listener, it is a sobering thing to hear.

This recording was produced by the National Association of Air Traffic Specialists

PocketPC Navigation Software

Ok, flight navigation on a PocketPC is growing fairly rapidly now.  In a search just recently for GPS Software for the PocketPC, I found a Moving Map solution from a group in the Netherlands. They are http://www.pocketfms.com

This is a FreeWare project that is being done by a couple of General Aviation Enthusiasts to build a quality software product.  They are accepting donations also!

Thoughts about guns in the cockpit?

Now this one is a touchy subject, but to put it in context listen to this MP3 that I came across.

Enjoy!

My Second Solo!!

Tuesday, Jan. 28, I was able to do my supervised solo!  Wow!

I ended up doing 9 laps around KCRG and then called it enough.  It was so strange to be sitting there all by myself after over a year and a half of lessons.

Nathan's Birthday Flight

On Oct. 26, 2002-- my son, Nathan Poolson, turned 7.  So, I worked it out with my flight instructor to take Nathan for a little discovery flight.  Here is my son flying 2MA out of Craig Municipal Airport.

Why Fly?   www.GAservingAmerica.org

General Aviation has been getting a bad name from all of the negative, yet incorrect and uneducated media coverage.   AOPA has created an incredable site that truly explains what General Aviation is all about.

I finally Soloed!

On Oct. 29, 2002, I finally Soloed!  My Journal has more information about this major milestone.

Why this site?

This site has been developed since I had more information about Aviation than I knew that to do with.  With so many links to so many things which Pilots and Flying enthusiasts would appreciate, I put them here so that others could benefit from this info.

I am constantly adding new links and will even be adding new sections to even further refine what I already have in place.  In fact, I have just finished updating this site to facilitate easier changes.

About the Weather Info here

The weather information links here allow for a good grasp of current and forecast weather conditions for planning a flight.  This information also allows for almost realtime local and national weather conditions.

However, this site is only used for reference and will give you a better "picture" of conditions as you obtain an Official Weather Briefing!  You MUST obtain an official Weather briefing via your local FSS or (800)WX BRIEF.
